Alice sighed and searched the house for Jasper. She saw him and danced up to him. "Want to go out tonight?" She asked, trying to sound enthusiastic.

The sight of Alice made Jasper feel a little uneasy. Were they still at the stage of avoiding each other or were they back to talking now? He hoped the latter, and she had at least approached him this time, and she was trying to be enthusiastic. He smiled: this was more like the Alice he knew and loved. He knew things weren't alright yet, but this was a step in the right direction, at least. "Yes, I'd like that," he answered, still smiling. "I want some time to talk to you... if that's alright." The last part he added for good measure. He was a gentleman at heart and had no intention of making her do anything she didn't want to do, and if discussing this problem would become a problem in itself he could live in mystery for a while. Being capable of living forever worked wonders on patience.

Alice grinned. But her insides were not grinning. "We could go see a movie...." She suggested. She was happy to talk to Jasper.

Movies. Easy, mundane, unvampiric. It was a nice touch, and Jasper welcomed the opportunity to act like the humans around them. In a human world, they might not have such problems as they did now. "That sounds good to me," he replied. "Which one will we see?" He worded the question thus because he knew that if she had a preference, now that he had indicated none of his own, she would already see them watching it. Needless to say Jasper found Alice's power almost as useful in planning his life as she did in planning hers.

Alice, still grinning, closed her eyes. She saw them watching a mindless romantic comedy. Then it went blank. Grr. Werewolf. "Hey," She began hastily, "Let's go see that zombie movie at Port Angeles." There would be no werewolf's in Port Angeles.

He wondered why the sudden urge for Port Angeles, but he didn't press the matter. The last thing he wanted to do was make Alice uncomfortable before the date even started. "If that's what you want," he said simply, with a friendly, reassuring smile. It was sad that he felt the need to resort to the gesture just to keep the mood between them calm. Of course, he was helping that along with his powers, but acknowledging that only made the pain worse. Shifting his mind from the worries preying upon it, he addressed a new question to her. "Do you want to take the porsche, or shall I play chauffeur?"

Alice placed her index finger on her chin in a pretend thinking pose. "You can drive." She grinned. When she took her Porsche, she went a little too fast. And took a too many sharp turns. "I'm almost as reckless as Edward!" She remembered telling Bella.

Jasper didn't want to say anything, but he felt slightly relieved to be the one driving. He trusted Alice with his eternal life, of course, but sometimes the girl did seem to have a vendetta against the road. "Alright," he said. "We can go whenever you want to: whenever you're ready." Jasper would go as he was, no problems. But some girls - including his dear Alice, very often - liked to pretty up to visual perfection before taking a step out of the front door. But having lived for so long, he had developed his patience sufficiently to not mind how long she took getting ready.

Alice smiled, showing the crystal's behind her mouth. "I'm already ready." She informed him. She had changed into a cute dress and matching shoes. And Alice also knew, that being a pale, graceful, petite vampire, she would have looked fantastic in just about anything.

Jasper hadn't expected that. Although he supposed he should have - Alice must have known as soon as she decided to ask that he would agree to go out, so she could have gotten ready beforehand to save time for him. Her apparent eagerness was amusing, if a little strange when set beside her recent behaviour. But Jasper didn't worry about that. "Excellent," he said, holding out his hand to her. He thought she looked lovely, but he knew he was biased and always thought that. With such a beautiful smile on her pixie face, she was perfect.

Alice smiled. She placed her hand in his. He really was perfect. He could control emotions and manage to make anyone happy, even Leo. But, he especially made Alice happy, even when he wasn't using his delightful powers. [/blockquote]

Jasper didn't know what he would have done without Alice. Before her, his life hadn't been quite right; like a book with pages missing. But Alice was more than just missing pages: she was a part of his heart that he had never realised had been missing from his chest until she put it there. Returning her smile, he led her to the garage, where the Cullen car armada lay waiting. It had always amused Jasper how many cars they had: as if they were personally responsible for global warming in the Olympic Peninsula. He held the door of his car open for her, like the 'good southern gentleman' he remembered her calling him a while back.

Alice giggled and sat in the passenger side of the car. "It's a beautiful night, isn't it?" Alice asked. Stars were shining overhead. They seemed to call to her. They always seemed to call to her. Telling her to search. Search the past and future, look at the present from a different perspective. When she finally did, she found what she hoped she would never find.
Alice sighed, looking out the window as the car passed trees and such. The moon seemed to follow them, as if just waiting to see when Alice would tell him. [/blockquote]

It certainly was a beautiful night, Jasper agreed, as he got into the car, started the engine and sped sleekly out of the garage. Jasper liked the night better than the day: the serenity of the moonlight was soothing and the calmness of the resting world made him see the beauty of the things around him more clearly. Not to mention that Alice looked absolutely divine in the starlight. “As beautiful as any night can be, but incomparable to the loveliness of the woman beside me,” he answered charmingly, smiling at her without taking his eyes completely off the road. It only half mattered: if they crashed, they wouldn’t be in any danger at all, but he liked this car and he didn’t want to jeopardise its place in the family. Alice seemed preoccupied tonight, and though Jasper wondered why, he didn’t ask her. She would tell him, if it was something she wanted him to know.
